There are several different ways to build links for traffic and for search engine rankings.
Matt Cutts describes the best links as links which are given freely by authoritative sources that are trusted by visitors and Google themselves. (to paraphrase)

So the following tactics will get you those kinds of links:

1. Linkbaiting: writing controversial, wise, witty, valuable, or otherwise good content that gets other people talking about you on their sites, linking back to your post.

2. Press Releases: This may seem counter-intuitive since most people think press release syndication is only about “placing” links where you want them across a large network. But think of it this way: PRWeb.com has a trackback feature where bloggers can do a trackback to your release and get a valuable link back to their site in the process. They talk up your release and your release gets more traffic, link popularity, which sends you more traffic from the release including more link popularity by having a release that actually ranks.

Link Buying

Text Link Brokers and Text Link Ads (both .com) are the best places to buy advertising. I say advertising because you shouldn’t be buying links just for pagerank. I likely get more traffic than you do and my pagerank sucks. Plus if Google finds out you are buying links solely to manipulate their rankings, they will zap you.

(I know this is stupid. How can Google know the difference between you buying a link on a site for traffic and buying it to manipulate their link popularity algorithm? It’s a ridiculous argument to say they know why I bought a link. Google doesn’t know your reasoning for buying advertising other than you want more exposure. Keep it that way by not talking about “buying links” and instead call it advertising. That’s really what it is.)

Don’t buy links for pagerank. Here’s another reason:

You should be buying ads for traffic directly from the site you are buying from. Search engine rankings are a side effect of good advertising, not the reason for it.

Authoritative Directories

There are authoritative directories you must be listed in if you are serious about your online business. And they cost money. Sorry, but you can play the “free” game for years before you see any serious traffic from free link building alone.

You can gain a lot by submitting to Yahoo Directory, Best of the Web, What You Seek and other human edited paid directories. Google trusts the sites they find there and so do the visitors who use these directories to search.

You can circumvent any paid linking and advertising and still succeed. But I’m willing to bet you don’t want to wait as long as it is going to take to get the results you are looking for by going to totally free link building route.

Well here it is, my 25 things about me,
I hope EVERYBODY participates in this, because it gives each of us
a chance to get to know everyone a little better.

First off, I just want to say Alex Jeffreys coaching course
has been excellent, Alex has a way of always overdelivering
on everything, we have a great bunch of students,
with all types of ability contributing all the time
to help each other.

Ok,
without anymore stalling here they are.

1) I will always keep my word, whether its
time related, some material value or any other category.

2) I will tell you what I think, Good or Bad,
without hurting your feelings ( I’m good at that).

3) I think this is important.
I am thankful for everyday, and treat each day as if
its my last, because someday it will be.

4) Helping others in need is important to me,
that’s the way I was brought up.

5) When I was growing up, I got blamed for
everything that went wrong, even when I wasn’t there.
(Figure that one out)!!

6) I am sensitive at times, but working to improve on that.

7) Being friendly and thoughtful are important to me.

I am blessed to have a beautiful and wonderful wife, a great son, grandson
and a fantastic mother.

I dont smoke (never have), no drinking, no sex( only kidding dear).

10) I wanted to be a Disc Jockey when I was in high school,
but that didnt go too far.

11) I love to keep statistics on various topics.

12) I am a dedicated sports fan, liking most sports,
my favorite team is the Boston Celtics.

13) My favorite animal is dogs, I had a Boxer
for 7 years, actually he was my son’s,
one of those temporary things a few months
or so.

14) I walk 4 times a week, for an hour each time, great exercise.

15) I love to get on the computer, and be productive ( sound familiar)?
with what I am working on at the time.

16) Fixing a problem gives me great satisfaction.

17) I tend to be impatient at times.

18) ok, I am impatient most of the time.

19) I love to watch National Geographic and
The History Channel.

20) At times I have ADD, which I am
trying to improve on.

21) I sometimes make quick snap decisions,
usually they are mistakes.
Working on that to improve.

22) I need more confidence on my Marketing skills

I thought to myself, there is so much to do to establish yourself on the internet,

He is without a doubt the most Motivational and Inspiring speaker around.

and I keep learning new things everyday,

Well we are now in Week 7, learning new things everyday.
Tuesday evening, we as students had the privilege of
being on a webinar with Rich Schefren
and what you can learn from Rich who is called ‘Guru to the Gurus’ is incredible.
He has made more millionaires out of his clients than anybody else.

I took plenty of notes, and will be also learning from Rich in the future.
As far as the course with Alex Jeffreys we are
proceeding very well with a combination of excellent Modules presented by Alex himself
(he doesn’t conclude the webinar until the very last question is answered by him).
We also have top notch guest speakers as well.

It’s important not to get overwhelmed with all the information in this course,
and go at a pace that is acceptable to you, there is no time limits for this course.
We are all better off for taking this course, and I believe the path to success,
will be made a lot faster and easier as well.
